Magazine Project Research #1

Image
The first magazine I chose for my magazine research is the Sarasota October issue. The cover layout of the magazine is a dream home with a see-through underground pool. This really captures the sunny atmosphere of Sarasota as you can go swimming basically all year round. The colors this magazine decided to showcase on their cover were sea- foam greens, sunny yellows, and sky blues. In the Sarasota magazine the types of articles showcased are articles for where you can bring your dog to in Sarasota, interior design awards; one which is featured on the cover, arts and entertainment highlights, and food favorites from local restaurants. Arts and entertainment highlights for the month are located on pg. 109, Food favorites are located on pg. 123, the design star awards are located on pg. 64, and the articles on where you can bring your dog to are featured on pg. 86.     Types of advertisements included in the magazine are for the YMCA on pg. 16, Laurel Oak on pg. 11...

Project Selection- My Decision

For my project I have chosen to do a magazine, because I feel like my skills will be more beneficial for the magazine creation because of my artistic ability. I also really enjoy taking pictures. I took a photography class last year here at school and I have my own camera. The genre of my magazine is going to be a travel magazine on Florida. I will incorporate things such as, places to go, places to stay, things to do, etc. A main focus will be on the beaches because we have some of the best in the country. I may also include cultural aspects of the city. I think this project is a good selection for me because I have lived in Sarasota all my life, and I have all the resources right in front of me. Finally, I will be working on this project by myself.

Project Selection-Film

Some aspects of film production that interest me based on my experiences and what we have learned in class are all the different camera shots, editing techniques, and camera angles. Coming into the class I already knew a little about different camera shots, angles, etc. but from going over the vocab at the beginning of the year to watching a variety of different films, where I could observe it happening in front of me I have learned so much more. It fascinates me how different shots can change the mood of the film, for example the point of view shot allows the viewer to see how the character may view the situation differently from another character. I've also inferred while watching films and TV shows that if a scene is shot far away from the character but still focusing on them, that it usually means someone is watching them. Also in class when we watched the documentary on the production of the Ferris Buellers' Day Off movie, they expressed the struggles of their film be...

Project Selection- Magazine

An aspect of print journalism that interests me based on my experiences is how it is distributed to people all around the world. Also. the process the media has to go through to publish print journalism is very lengthy and must be done right. For example, in the film "All the President's Men" they under went an investigation; which led to gathering sources, getting people to talk on the record, and following the money. Another major aspect that I learned in class from watching the films "The Newsroom" and "All the President's Men", was the importance of good press and how bad press can lead to your downfall. Journalists also get to write stories, from their own perspective and view point while at the same time being expressive, this aspect I find to be the most fascinating. Some skills that I possess that would make the magazine project a good fit for me is my eloquent and artistic ability. I'm an artsy person so I feel like I would be goo...
