This is my midterm draft, in my article I interviewed my friend Sarah Shumway, an aspiring student of Ringling College of Art and Design with a strong passion for art. I also decided to keep the title of my magazine the same, as I said in my earlier blog posts that I wasn't 100% certain about it but I really liked the meaning behind it. 

Here are a few more of my photographs I took at my shoot last Saturday. The two photos on the left were shot in the Bayfront Gardens; this was the perfect photography spot to capture photos of the roses in the garden. I also took a high angle shot of the pavilion. The pavilion has a little sitting area with a unique arch located above, displaying a very unique pattern. My friend and I walked around the paths in the garden, observing all of nature's beauty. On the left is a picture I took of one of the fake doors, exhibiting its many pretty shells and stones. I find this picture very aesthetic from the white door and simple pink wall background, to the detailed sea shells. From the simple background I find that it draws more attention to the detailing on the rim of the door. On Saturday I scheduled a photo shoot at the John & Mable  Ringling Museum of Art. My friend tagged along because like me, she also loves art. When we got to the Ringling we visited the Bayfront Gardens and the Museum of Art. There is also the Ca'd'zan and the Circus Museum exhibits. Although, these two exhibits are not included in the general admission price, which is why we didn't visit them. I have toured these in the past and they are beautiful. At the museum there is a huge courtyard that is absolutely gorgeous. This area features many pretty flowers, palm trees, and statues. This is a perfect picture taking area and as you can see I took full advantage of it.  These pictures feature their beautiful walk ways and impressive architectures. My flat plan consists of 90 pages, a little over half of those being comprised of ads. While doing my research I discovered that travel magazines consist of numerous ads. Many start out with an ad section, and resort to flip flopping back and forth from article to ad, article to ad, etc. I decided to follow this technique after looking through multiple magazines. While also including a large section of ads in the middle of my magazine, and a larger content section towards the end. I also chose to place my cover story towards the beginning/middle of the magazine because I wanted it  to  be the center both figuratively and literally. I didn't want it getting lost in the magazine.

      This is my table of contents template, the inspiration for this came from Conde-Nast Traveler. I personally love this style because it is simple yet classy. I prefer this over a method that is too obnoxious and cluttered. I think this way the reader's eyes can focus in on one section, instead of their eyes wandering all over the page. I also added the addition of a brief comment under each magazine section to capture the readers attentions. My magazine consists of four sections; beautiful beaches, arts & culture, thrilling theme parks, and Florida's state parks. I decided not to add blurbs underneath the other articles, because they are more minor topics and not the focus of my magazine. Finally, the pictures I selected for my table of contents page are all very tropical, because that is the overall theme I'm trying to portray.

    This is my cover design template, my inspiration for this came from the Gulf to Bay magazine. I thought it was beneficial how they had some of their magazines content on the front page, instead of just in the table of contents. The title for my magazine is not 100% certain yet. I love the word Abendrot and the meaning behind it but I feel like it may cause confusion, and people may not understand it. Abendrot is a german word meaning, the color of the sky when the sun is setting. I believe this name captures the essence of what a person expects to experience while traveling to Florida. I also love my addition I added on the top line above the title; Travel, Explore, Live. It's short and sweet and it perfectly sums up what I want to portray in my magazine.

The final magazine I chose for my research is a magazine called The World's Most Amazing Places. The cover photo features the most beautiful picture of mountains located in China, near the city of Zhangye. These mountains are nicknamed "rainbow mountains" for their streaming colors of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The cover layout consists of the magazine title right at the top, front and center with a nice white bold font. At the bottom right of the page you will find what the magazine is going to be including; 112 destinations to see in your lifetime. The kinds of articles included are exactly what is shown on the cover page. 112 of the world's most amazing places specifically articles about ancient marvels, stunning landscapes, watery wonders, sacred sites, dream resorts, extreme adventures, and iconic sites.  While I was looking through the magazine I was shocked to find that there were absolutely no ads.     The forth magazine I chose for my research is called Gulf to Bay, it is a local travel magazine for the St. Peters-burg/Clear water area. The cover layout is organized nicely, with the font to the sides so it's not covering up the subject. The font colors portrayed are white, and blue adding to the effect of the coastal theme. Based on the pictures, and colors exhibited people most likely will gravitate toward it. A common theme I've noticed in this magazine and the past ones I've researched is that a bold white font is very common. The picture chosen for the cover shows a man riding a bicycle while also including palm trees, and an old-timey car in the foreground.      In this magazine I found articles about water excursions, restaurants to visit; varying from waterfront, casual, or kid friendly dining, 12 beaches to check out all located on the coast of Clearwater & St. Pete, and beautiful art sites for art lovers.        The third magazine I chose for my research is the Travel + Leisure magazine, the food and travel special. The cover layout of this magazine features a photograph right in the center from the city of Tuscany with two men holding up a giant piece of their local bread. The colors exhibited are yellows, reds, and oranges, which are all warm colors. The three main countries featured in this issue are Vietnam, Tuscany, and Sonoma. So, some of the articles are titled; undiscovered Tuscany, Vietnam: The Ultimate Food Tour, and the Return to Sonoma. Since it is the food and travel special they have a huge section dedicated to the top 100 restaurants you need to know right now. These 100 restaurants come from the top 10 food capitals: New York, San Francisco,  Buenos Aires, Barcelona, London, Copenhagen, Paris, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Tokyo. This magazine gives the reader an accurate representation of how food from different cultures differs around the world. A...

    The second magazine I chose for my study is Conde Nast Traveler. The cover layout of this magazine showcases a picture of a beach with a sailboat right in the center, as the subject. The title is located right at the top of the page, and underneath are the words Hot List which surround the main subject, the sailboat. As I read further into the magazine, I discovered that the Hot List was a list the editors of the magazine created of their favorite places they traveled to in 2017. The colors exhibited on the cover aren't vibrant, but rather neutral, crisp colors. I feel like the editors color choices gave the magazine a more professional vibe, while also making the image look three-dimensional. In my opinion, I prefer this aspect because it very accurately represents what you would see on a beach and draws your attention in a way other than vibrant colors would .
