Magazine Project Research #3

       The third magazine I chose for my research is the Travel + Leisure magazine, the food and travel special. The cover layout of this magazine features a photograph right in the center from the city of Tuscany with two men holding up a giant piece of their local bread. The colors exhibited are yellows, reds, and oranges, which are all warm colors. The three main countries featured in this issue are Vietnam, Tuscany, and Sonoma. So, some of the articles are titled; undiscovered Tuscany, Vietnam: The Ultimate Food Tour, and the Return to Sonoma. Since it is the food and travel special they have a huge section dedicated to the top 100 restaurants you need to know right now. These 100 restaurants come from the top 10 food capitals: New York, San Francisco,  Buenos Aires, Barcelona, London, Copenhagen, Paris, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Tokyo. This magazine gives the reader an accurate representation of how food from different cultures differs around the world. Advertisements in the Travel + Leisure magazine vary from Volkswagen, Subaru, and Toyota cars, Italian frozen meals, the Norwegian cruise line, AT&T phone company, and so much more. I saw that in magazines I could basically find advertisements on anything. While doing my research, I took in notice that throughout the magazines most of the time it went article, ad, article, ad, etc.  The magazine would also either have large sections of only ads, or large article sections; usually found at the end.
      The types of photos featured throughout the articles, table of contents and cover are photographs of dishes from around the world, sneak peaks into beautiful countries, and inside views of some of the worlds top restaurants. Travel + leisure has a circulation number of 969,266, and I was unable to find if they have been nominated for/won any awards.

    The second magazine I decided to research for my target audience is the Travel + Leisure magazine. I selected this magazine because its magazine contents are very similar to mine. This magazine was also one of the magazines I used for inspiration when constructing my own magazine. Both magazines, include travel guides, popular attractions to visit, beach vacations, how to pack, and more. Although, the Travel + Leisure magazine does not focus on just one location like my magazine did, it focuses on few select locations, and matches a theme.      The target audience of the travel and leisure magazine consists of a higher male audience percentage at 53% while the female audience is at 47%. My magazine doesn't have a specific gender target audience, although I would expect it to be either balanced between male and female, or a slightly larger female audience. 3rd Quarter Submission Feedback

On Wednesday, March 21st, I presented my 3rd quarter submission to the class. After hearing their thoughts, I have a few things to fix that they suggested, and some other things I would like to fix as well. First off, I'm going to decrease the font size in my article down to size 14, as of right now it is at size 18. When I was creating my article I had the screen zoomed out, so the font appeared a lot smaller when I was editing it, compared to when I zoomed the screen back to normal size. Although, when I decrease the font size I know that I will have extra blank space in my article and I will need to fill it somehow. I could do this by either adding more content, or rearranging the layout and adding a quote, or another picture. Another feature I need to alter is the page numbering. I noticed that since my article is a two page spread, appearing side-by-side, the page numbers wouldn't both be on the right side of the page.
