Magazine Project Research #2

The second magazine I chose for my study is Conde Nast Traveler. The cover layout of this magazine showcases a picture of a beach with a sailboat right in the center, as the subject. The title is located right at the top of the page, and underneath are the words Hot List which surround the main subject, the sailboat. As I read further into the magazine, I discovered that the Hot List was a list the editors of the magazine created of their favorite places they traveled to in 2017. The colors exhibited on the cover aren't vibrant, but rather neutral, crisp colors. I feel like the editors color choices gave the magazine a more professional vibe, while also making the image look three-dimensional. In my opinion, I prefer this aspect because it very accurately represents what you would see on a beach and draws your attention in a way other than vibrant colors would . The text feature utilized consisted of a white bold font. This choice of the white bold font not only allowed the text to stand out, but it also blended with the other colors on the cover perfectly.
The kinds of articles showcased in Conde Nast Traveler consist of articles about what to wear while traveling to different places, such as what to wear even when your on the plane explaining how important first impressions are (pg.28). Some more articles include information on the best new hotels the editors stayed at in 2017 (pg.67) , a guide to climbing Africa's highest peak including tips (pg.64), a guide to shopping in Jaipur (pg.50), where to eat and drink in Vancouver (pg.60) , and an announcement of the return of a historic Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara (pg. 32). In this magazine there were many advertisements for beaches to go to in Florida, for example the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel located in an advertisement section between pages 60-64. There are also advertisements for the Florida Keys, Amelia Island, and St. Augustine also located in the advertisement section between pages 60-64. Some other advertisements included places outside of Florida such as the British Virgin Islands on pg.62, and Charleston, South Carolina on pg. 30.
The types of photos that appear on the table of contents, cover, and the articles are travel shots taken from different places around the world, different food and drinks, places to stay, islands, etc. Also, an interesting fact is that the cover photo was actually shot by an iPhone 7. Conde Nast has a circulation number of 813,262, and they have won 25 National Magazine Awards.
