Creative Critical Reflection Draft #1

 1. How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups?
A few noticeable conventions my magazine challenged that I can pinpoint are; having some of it's content on the cover while going further into depth on the content page, adding a top line above the title, as well as an underline, and having a unique content page layout. I chose to have some of  my magazine's content on the cover so I could give the viewer a general idea of what is to be included in my magazine. While viewing other magazines I tended to find that when contents were listed on the cover, something brief would be stated about the topic. However, I reinstated the contents found on the cover in my table of contents page and then gave a description. With my magazine I decided to chose four main topics; beaches, arts & culture, theme parks, and state parks. On my content page I gave a brief explanation about the topic, trying to capture the readers attention. However these four topics weren't the only articles I included, I also included more minor categories such as what to bring with you, water recreation, packing strategies, etc. With these categories I didn't provide an explanation since they weren't the main focus of my magazine, but instead I provided them for extra info. This was also a technique I challenged because this was a method I conjured up on my own. The last convention I challenged was including a top line, and underline surrounding my title. While doing my research I didn't find this technique in any of the other travel magazines. I incorporated this feature because I thought it was a nice addition, and it also added a fancier effect to match the theme of my cover photo. However for my magazine article I didn't really challenge any conventions. I used the conventions of providing page numbers with branding, photographs relating to my article, and a basic layout with my columns.

My magazine "Abendrot" can represent a variety of different social groups. Abendrot can relate to travel lovers looking for a new destination to visit, people who live in Florida but are searching for new activities to try, or cities to visit, it could also relate to people who live outside of Florida but are wanting to come visit and are curious about the state. This magazine offers these groups insight of what there is to do in popular cities in Florida such as Sarasota, Miami, St. Peters-berg, etc. My magazine does not target social groups from a specific area since it would be international and people all over the world would be viewing it. My magazine represents social groups with the language I use in the text as well. Typically travel targets an older audience because travel can be very costly. So in my article, I tried to maintain a formal sense of writing, so I could represent an older teen/adult audience.
